After obtaining his Juris Doctor, along with a Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law, James worked as a visiting legal fellow at the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the General Counsel, Operations and Enforcement Law Division, and with the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on the Judiciary. Following his brief time in government service, James D. Brousseau decided to enter private practice with an exclusive focus on immigration removal defense.

Before collaborating to form Brousseau & Lee, PLLC, James D. Brousseau worked as an Associate attorney for over three years with Leyruta, PLLC located in Herndon, Virginia and with Youman, Madeo & Fasano, LLP located in New York City.

While attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, James D. Brousseau served on the Phillip C. Jessup public international law moot court team, and as a member of the Trial Advocacy Board. During his final semester of law school, James D. Brousseau completed a full-time internship with LSU Immigration Clinic where he worked as a student attorney representing detained individuals in removal proceedings.
